Original Sinclair QL related hardware.
Manufacturer: Miracle Systems
Item Name: Super Gold Card
Estimated Rarity (1 - 10): 8
Related Software: None needed but I think it possibly came with a version of SMSQ/(E).
Notes: Probably one of the most sought after original QL upgrades at the time and even nowadays, the Miracle Systems Super Gold Card (and predecessor the Gold Card) replaced the QLs internal CPU and RAM and also provided a floppy disk interface, upgrading a humble QL to be a worthy competitor to other contemporary computers (e.g. IBM PC compatibles) of the early to mid 1990s.
The Super Gold Card plugged into the QLs standard side expansion port (with no intervention required inside the QL) and contained a 24mhz 68020 CPU and 4mb of RAM. A battery backed real time clock was included as well as a floppy drive connector which supported standard 720k and 1.44mb drives as well as ED drives which had a disk capacity of 3.2mb when formatted for QL use. Unlike it's non-Super predecessor, the Super Gold Card also featured a pin header for a Centronics printer port and a power socket to run the card from 5v via a barrel jack.
My example has chip date-codes that date it to 1994. The Super Gold Card cost £375 to purchase new in 1994 and about £160 to purchase new by 1997.
