Original Sinclair QL related hardware.
Manufacturer: Miracle Systems
Item Name: Gold Card
Estimated Rarity (1 - 10): 7
Related Software: None needed but I think it possibly came with a version of SMSQ/(E).
Notes: Probably one of the most sought after original QL upgrades at the time and even nowadays, the Miracle Systems Gold Card (and later the Super Gold Card) replaced the QLs internal CPU and RAM and also provided a floppy disk interface, upgrading a humble QL to be a worthy competitor to other contemporary computers (e.g. IBM PC compatibles) of the early to mid 1990s.
The Gold Card plugged into the QLs standard side expansion port (with no intervention required inside the QL) and contained a 16mhz 68000 CPU and 2mb of RAM. A battery backed real time clock was included as well as a floppy drive connector which supported standard 720k and 1.44mb drives as well as ED drives which had a disk capacity of 3.2mb when formatted for QL use.
My example has the later red PCB and the chip date-codes date it to 1991. The Gold Card cost £225 to purchase new in 1994.
