Original Sinclair QL related hardware.

Manufacturer: Miracle Systems

Item Name: QXL II Card

Estimated Rarity (1 - 10): 8

Related Software: Originally supplied with SMSQ (mine is version 2.76) but can also run the latest versions of SMSQ/E.

Notes: The QXL (and QXLII) cards are designed to be installed within a spare 16 bit ISA slot of a PC. It has its own CPU and RAM but needs the PC host to provide it with power and access to monitor, keyboard, floppy drive, hard drive and serial/parallel ports - basically the I/O. My version is a QXL II card with 8mb RAM and a Motorola MC68EC040RC25 CPU running at 25mhz. The newest chip codes on the board date it to around mid 1999. To start it, you simply run the QXL EXE program within MS-DOS and the card then takes over. It does not interfere with whatever is installed on the PC hard drive, instead, it uses a QXL.WIN container file (hence the name of this website!) and only ever manipulates the contents of that file. You can go back to Windows/MS-DOS at any time. Another useful feature are the 2 QL-NET sockets on the rear of the card (accessible from the slot bracket) which make it very easy to transfer files to or form an original QL.
