The NextUPS Systems Mantis II Tower 500 is identical to the Eaton 5SC500i

NextUPS are a small Belgium based seller of a range of Uninterruptable Power Supplies. I picked one up recently and needed some parts for it. During my messing around I discovered that the NextUPS model is almost identical to the much better known and far more plentiful Eaton 5SC500i. I think the Eaton model went to market first, but both are certainly from the same OEM / factory and have exactly the same main PCB populated with the same components.

Here are side-by-side images of both units:

Note front panel with either NextUPS or Eaton logos with different vent-hole styles etc, and the rear of the unit has a couple of differences: the NextUPS Mantis II 500 no longer has provision for an RS232 connection to a computer, instead, it sensibly just has the USB option. The NexUPS device also has additional RJ45 network cable protection, which internally is by way of a small additional PCB.

The NextUPS units don't come up for sale that often, but are sometimes cheaper than the Eaton version and both, being internally identical, offer pure sine wave output, so this info may be useful to someone. Both of mine had defective electrolytic capacitors (one of them after just 3 years in use) due to the internals getting quite warm, and of course because they tend to be left on all day for months or years. Changing the electrolytic capacitors fixed both units (no need to change the 3 nearest the connector to the USB PCB).

I suspect also that the similar Eaton models 5SC750I, 5SC1000I and 5SC1500I are the same as the corresponding Next UPS Mantis II models with 750, 1000 and 1500 in their names.
